Janus coin pendant
Janus is a uniquely Roman god and is proudly venerated as such. In Roman mythology Janus is the guardian of the heavens, the god of beginnings and ends. The month of January derives from its name and, according to the Romans, the veneration of this god ensures in every undertaking that we make a good start and a good end.
Bronze coin minted by unknown family, between the years 211 to 206 a.C.
Obverse.- head laureate of the god Janus bifronte; in the upper part numeral I, indicative of its numeral value.
Reverse.- ship's prow to the right and numeral I in the upper field.
This pendant is a replica of an original bronze Ace, and it is made of bronze too.
