Description

The treasure of Childeric’s tomb included a golden bull, some coins, a signet ring, and other precious objects. However, the highlight of the collection was 300 golden insects with garnet inlays (these mysterious jeweled insects were commonly believed to be bees), which were sewn onto the monarch’s burial cloak.

These bees inspired Napoleon’s bees (he was looking for an emblem symbolic of France that was not the Bourbon fleur-de-lis). Unfortunately, the vast majority of Childeric’s bees were stolen and melted down during a robbery in 1831. Only two of the splendid red and gold bees remain.

Height: 1.9 cm

Chain included.

All our items are delivered with very careful packaging, which includes, in addition to the box, a label with a photo and description of the piece (name, origin, date, material...).
